Putnam, Nicole

Nicole Putnam received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees studying Optics and is currently a graduate student in Vision Science at UC Berkeley. Her thesis work focuses on the use of Adaptive Optics Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscopy to better characterize the normal functioning fovea, the region of the retina used for tasks such as reading. Nicole has participated in the Professional Development Program since 2008 and has worked with teams to design optics and vision science activities for graduate students, post-docs, community college students, and optometry students. She is grateful for the lessons that her participation in the PDP taught her about her own scientific process and is eager to incorporate elements of the teaching tools and philosophy learned in the PDP in teaching and outreach activities in the future.
